The Road to Relentless- bench and assistance – week 9

It is never a good thing for me to be gone and being gone for a week has made this week incredibly busy!   I will say that I am very thankful that I am now only working out three days a week because that extra morning of sleeping in is awesome!

We have had a lot of emergency surgeries this week.  I must say that I am glad to be back to take care of them all because it makes me feel bad to not be available to people.

Tuesday we had two emergency foreign body surgeries at the end of the day.  Both dogs had come in the day before and we had tried to treat medically but they needed to have surgery.  The first little dog had eaten a towel and it had become a linear foreign body.  It had caused the bowel to scrunch up and it was in very bad shape.  We had to do a lot to keep the poor little thing alive.  She is still hanging in there but is not out of the woods yet.

The second one was a basset that had hollowed a bouncy ball.  His surgery went much better and he will be going home tomorrow.

Wednesday was just as busy as tuesday and I didnt get out of the office until after 6pm.  I had scheduled a massage for tuesday night and had to cancel because of needing to do the surgeries.  We had moved it to wednesday night and I had to cancel again.  I hate doing that but I had no options.  Thankfully my therapist is awesome and understands.  We moved it to saturday so hopefully nothing will come up and all will be good.

Today was yet another busy day with a lot of surgeries scheduled and a few emergency ones added in.  We had a vaginal prolapse that had had the ovaries left in from her spay so we added her and then there was a cat with a badly broken leg and the owners didnt have much money so we amputated the leg and finally there was an older female dog with a pyometra.  She was sick!  Her white cell count was over 75,000!!  Poor thing.  If you have an intact female dog and she is not being used for breeding, SPAY HER!!  As they get older the uterus gets weaker and cant clear out the bacteria and such and these older females will get a life threatening infection in their uterus.  It will kill them and has to be taken out as treatment.  Trust me, a spay is way cheaper than a pyometra surgery!!
