The Road to Relentless- bench and rows – week 5

It is hard to believe it has been 5 weeks of working with Paul Carter on my training.  I have noticed that I get about one hit a day on my blog  from people googling Paul Carter training or opinions of Paul Carter training or variations there of.  So before I ramble on about nothing much I will give you my thoughts on the past month.

For the base building part, there is a lot of volume.  For me, that was something that I wasnt used to.  BUT, it is NOT a bad thing.  The body is an amazing adaptable machine!  Is it a lot of work, yes it is but isnt that what we are in the gym for?!  To do hard work?!  It isnt supposed to be easy!  And I can tell you that each week it has gotten easier to do as far as the volume is concerned.  He watches the lifts on youtube and then sends me what he would like me to work on or what I am doing wrong or what I need to change or what numbers I need to do next week.  It is all pretty simple.  Any questions I have, he answers.  I would like to think that I am not super high maintenance so I havent really asked a bunch of questions but I suppose if I was, he would answer them accordingly.  I know he comes through as an asshole on his facebook page but he isnt that way on the one on one.  I even told him that he needed to yell at me and he refused.   He is straight forward and I have no issues at this time and definitely feel like I am getting my monies worth.

The afternoon was very busy and it was almost six before everyone was done and leaving.  I was just finishing up my blog when the phone rang and it was Fleming Tb Farms and they had a yearling colt that they had found injured in the pasture and since it was insured it needed a vet exam and insurance approval before it could be euthanized.  It was quite startling as one side of its neck was all caved in and the other pushed out.  Amazing that the thing was alive.

Xrays revealed a broken C3 so all the calls were made and approval given for euthanasia.

Somebody, I wont say any name so as to not indiscriminate myself, or I mean anyone, but someone drives fast so it was about 40 mins to and fro and 40 mins there so we were home and in bed before 9 which was great!

Got my new chucks in.  Had custom ones made with Buff Monster which I have no idea what that is but the colors were awesome so I ordered me some.

was happy to have hit all my numbers and everything felt good and I got the 20 reps on 95#  which the first week I only got 11, I think.  Too lazy to go back and see but I am pretty sure that 11 was the number.  I know it wasnt higher although it should have been.

incline bench

*75# for 18,18,18

This is supposed to be three sets for as many as possible.  Was happy to get to all 18 which is 4 or 5 reps more than last week after more reps done on flat bench so volume training isnt such a bad thing!

db rows

*45# for 5 sets of 20 each arm

It has been a good day.  The morning was the usual mix of surgeries and walk ins and we finished right before noon.  I then went down and checked out the new truck for the clinic.  I ordered it over 6 months ago and I am not entirely sure why it took so long but it has finally arrived and it is so very pretty!  It is black, all black inside and out.  They are going to switch the box next wednesday and then it will sit under the shop for the next five years and do not much of nothing.  I have had the old one for over five years and it barely has 40,000 miles on it which I used to do in about 6 months when I had my mobile practice.   I am going to trade in the jeep and David is going to take the enclave and I will start using the old truck.  I love my trucks :)
