The Cube Cycle 3 wave 3 week 3 – squats heavy

I have to make it through another 4 days and then finally a day off!  After ten weeks of working pretty much every day for 10+ hours, Im beat!!!   I am most thankful to God for giving me the strength to do it and I know if the opportunity happens again next year, I will do it again!   Why you ask?  Because I love the horse!   This is what many dont understand, the love of the horse, the race horse in this case.   The horse that goes out there and runs his heart out and his legs off for the entertainment of people.  That horse deserves someone to take care of him and to watch out for him and there arent very many of us out there who take care of such horses.  I have much more thoughts on this but not for here or today, but maybe one day, soon.

Did not feel well friday by the end of the day, in fact, I felt really bad so I actually started taking some antibiotics to help me through the weekend.  I dont like to take antibiotics as I think it is important for ones immune system to fight off simple sicknesses but I also knew that I have pretty much reached my limit physically and with another whole week to be worked before having any time off, I chose to be smart and help my body out.

Saturday morning it was up early and on the road with only Zac as Emma had a karate tournament.   They had nine races each day with some pretty good races on sunday.  Saturday after race one I got a call that a horse had been injured at the haul in barns.   She had tried to jump the stall door got hung up on the latch.  Unfortunately because there is only me, she had to wait until after the races so I could sew her up.  I gave her some sedation and a shot of bute and came back to her when we were done racing.

It came together pretty well.

Sunday was overcast and perfect racing weather.  There was an awesome crowd and everything went pretty well.

perfect day for racing and an awesome crowd.

There were several horses to treat after the races and one ranch to stop by to draw blood so it was late when we left tucson and we didnt get home until almost 9pm.  I was almost asleep when the phone rang and we had an emergency so up and over to the clinic and then back to bed.  It was very very hard to get up this morning.

It has been an interesting day.  The surgery schedule was almost all cats, which was awesome because cats go quick but odd because generally we do more dogs than cats.  It still took longer than it should have and there were a million walkins but I managed to be done by noon so I could go and bleed broncs at the fairgrounds.  I HATE bleeding broncs because they arent halter broke and you just have to try and hit the vein while they are in a chute and trying to bite you and strike you and kill you.  Fun times!

I came back and did an exploratory surgery on a cat that had come in earlier in the day.  It was a young cat that had stopped eating very much and was losing weight.  I could palpate a mass in the cranial abdomen so I recommended surgery to find out what it was.  Turned out to be a mesenteric mass with spread to the liver.  It was cool to see but bad for the cat as we euthanized him on the table.

I just finished up with four horse castrations and a teeth float and I am so ready for bed!!!
