5/3/1 cylce 2 week 3 – bench

I cant believe it is monday again already.  As a kid we are in such a hurry to become adults and then as adults we want everything to slow down.  Ahhhhh never satisfied, the human race!

Saturday started with an early morning text about a dog needing a c section.  They are good clients who are getting out of the breeding business and this is their last litter.

photo(525)Only three little babies but they were huge!!  One of them had bowel coming out its umbilicus so we had to mask her down and I did surgery on her and put everything back and sutured her back up.

photo(527)So far she is doing pretty well.  she didnt eat yesterday but the owner gave her a drop of pain meds and tube fed her and this morning she is back to doing really well.  Hoping that she continues that direction.

After finishing with the c section I decided that I had best get going on my self inflicted cardio/sled/anything better than nothing workout to try and get rid of some of this fluff!

photo(526)I started with two plates but it was way too hard with the uneven ground and sand and rocks and gravel so I dropped it down to one plate and that was doable.

photo(528)Zac wanted to do it as well and he did!  Bare feet and all!

I finished with the sled and put it away and had gone in and taken a shower when the phone rang again.  It was another breeder client, this time of pit bulls, and he had a puppy that he had sold the night before and the people had called and said it couldnt breathe.  He had gone and picked it up and brought it in and the people were right, the pup couldnt breathe.  I opened his mouth and the entire left side of his throat was swollen and was blocking his airway.  Nobody has any idea what happened but it was obvious that he needed something done or he was going to suffocate.

It was discussed and we all agreed to do a tracheotomy on him.  I have never had the opportunity to do a tracheotomy before so we were all excited about it, Jenn and I because it was something new and untried by us before and the owner because his dog was going to get the opportunity to live.

closed up and breathing through the tube :)   It was pretty awesome!  The first night Jenn went to check on him and he was not doing well.  He was really laboring to breathe.  I came over and made a few adjustments to the tube and it seemed to help.  Sunday he was very bright and alert and today he is doing awesome.   The swelling is getting smaller and I think I am going to pull the tube here in a few hours and see how he does as it appears he is breathing pretty well through his nose as long as he doesnt get too excited.

Jenn and I have named him Radar after M.A.S.H.  because I loved M.A.S.H. as a kid and we got to talking about how they used a pen for a tracheotomy on one of the episodes and Radar was the first name that came to mind :)

Got to bed early and rolled out of bed at 4:30 and left for the gym before 6!  Got to the gym and my dang card wouldnt work!  I cant tell you how much anxiety this caused me.  I dont like any changes to my routine and not being able to workout in the morning would just screw everything up!!  I called David and he told me where his card was so I headed back home only his card wasnt there!  I went back to the gym and tried again, nothing.  I went to the church to look for Davids card, not there!  I drove back by and someone was there and they let me in!  Thank you Jesus!  Life can go on! :)

bench

bench press

*135# for 5

*145# for 2 :( grrrr fail on #3

*155# FAIL  I suck, too heavy on the first set and it was all downhill from there.

*95# for 5 sets of 10

photo(524)The mental struggle for me with bench is a battle every time!!

reverse grip bench

*65# for 10

*75# for 10

*80# for 3 sets of 10

I was talking to my good friend Henri Skiba last night and he said that in conversation with a great bencher, reverse grip bench was highly recommended so I figured I would throw it in.

Glute/Ham

*3 sets of 15

and that was that.  I got a late start by 30 minutes and I was going to be late so no incline sit ups this day!

It has been a very typical monday with a ton of walk ins and other such things plus a whole bunch of horses that came in right in the middle of my morning surgeries!   One was a bilateral cryptorchid that was 5 years old and didnt really like his drugs.  He attempted to kick my head off the entire time I was shoving my hand up inside his belly!  Geesh, cant imagine why?!!  They also had a horse for x rays and then a horse with a sore on its belly and another one that needed its teeth floated.  2 hours later I was back in to finish my surgeries!!

The afternoon has been pretty slow and I dont really like slow afternoons :(   But maybe I will get the opportunity to go and tan :)
